Indianapolis, Ind. - Porshia Allen tied her career-high with 28 kills and added a career-best 21 digs while helping the Bulldogs to a 2-1 lead against visiting Wright State, but the Raiders rallied back for wins in the final two games to secure the match 30-22, 27-30, 28-30, 30-24, 15-12, on Friday (Oct. 26) evening at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs came out swinging in the second game after dropping the opener, breaking a 7-7 tie with six-straight points. Butler built up its lead to as much as eight at 27-19 before holding off a late Raider charge for a 30-27 decision.
Butler had to play catch-up after the break, with Wright State holding a 26-21 advantage and eyeing a 2-1 lead in the match. The Bulldogs, however, had other things in mind, as they rode a commanding 9-2 run to close the game, including a clinching block assist from Michelle DeGeeter and Dana Daprile.
The Bulldogs again had to rally in the fourth contest, as the Raiders held a six-point lead at 25-19 only to have Butler close the advantage to two at 25-23 thanks to kills by Jalesa Lee, Nina Inic and Katie Daprile. They would get no closer, however, as WSU finished with a 5-1 run to force a deciding fifth game.
Despite an early 4-2 lead, the Bulldogs would be unable to hold off the Raiders in the final contest, as WSU used a 4-0 run to take the lead for good and kept Butler at bay for the victory.
Allen, who notched her 10th double-double of the season, finished with a .377 hitting percentage (28-8-53) in the match, while Katie Daprile tallied her sixth with 11 kills and 11 digs. Lee added a .400 hitting percentage (5-1-10) and finished with a team-best seven total blocks.
Inic tied her career-best kill total with two while leading the team with 23 digs. Dana Daprile added 49 assists and seven kills.
Butler returns to action next weekend when it hosts UIC on Friday (Nov. 2) beginning at 7:00 p.m.
