Albuquerque, N.M. - The Butler volleyball team went 0-2 in the first day of the University of New Mexico's Albuturkey Tournament. UNM defeated the Bulldogs in four games, 26-30, 30-27, 31-29, 30-25 in first round action and Butler dropped a three-game decision, 30-17, 30-23, 34-32 to No. 21 UCLA in the evening match. The Bulldogs (14-20) will take on Rice tomorrow at 6 p.m. in their final match of the season.
Butler's .176 hitting percentage, including a dismal .083 clip in game four, helped lead to their loss against the Lobos. The Bulldogs also committed nine service, five blocking and three ball-handling errors (to go along with 36 attacking errors) throughout the match.
Kali Carter paced the Bulldogs with a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs. Keely Norris had 14 kills, Areal Bienemy finished with 12 and redshirt freshman Candice Washington tied a career-high with 11 kills. Kamy Peters led all players with 15 digs and Amanda Matthews dished out 53 assists.
Leading the Lobo attack was Anna Reines who recorded 20 kills. Staci Masten finished with 12 kills and Blaire Burns added 11 to go along with 13 digs.
Norris and Carter combined for 22 kills for UCLA, but the Bruins' .268 hitting percentage on the match, including a .556 clip (17-2-27) in game two, was too much for the Bulldogs' to handle. Butler hit .133 on the match.
Brynn Murphy led UCLA with 11 kills, while hitting .600, and teammate Brittany Ringel added 10.
