If the spring campaign is any indication, the Butler volleyball team could be poised for a break-out season this fall. The Bulldogs recently concluded a successful spring season, posting second-place showings in two regional tournaments and capturing the title in their own open invitational.
Butler competed with Chicago State, Indiana, Indianapolis, Louisville and Southern Illinois at the IU Spring Invitational on March 29 and finished second behind the top-ranked Cardinals.
Two weeks later, numerous volleyball alumni watched the Bulldogs sweep past some of the area's top adult teams at the Butler Open Invitational en route to claiming the invite championship.
The campaign concluded in Fort Wayne, Ind., at the IF Spring Invitational on April 19. The Bulldogs finished second in the tournament, which was played using the newly-established 25-point scoring system.
"The matches have a new sense of urgency to them," associate head coach Karen Weatherington said, regarding the new point system. "It puts our games one step closer to playing under international regulations. I expect to see even more competitive match-ups amongst all teams next season."
